
WALLNUT
Black walnut has a heartwood varying from light to dark brown and sapwood almost white and up to three inches wide in open-grown trees. Black walnut is a suite for natural finishes. It generally works straightforwardly with tools and is straight grained. Also, it is stable when in use. On the other hand, the white walnut (butternut) has light brown heartwood and white sapwood. In addition, the timber is considered as light in weight moderately weak in bending and endwise compression Butternut is similar to black walnut but has lesser strength and hardness in some ways. Primary uses for butternut include lumber and veneer.
Characteristics
- General Properties: It is heavy with semi-porous end grains. It suffers little warping and attack by insects.
- Working Properties: Durable, dense and shock resistance encourages application in prone abrasive structures such as boats.
